PublicationsTaking stock of a Development Education project, was originally written by Harm-Jan Fricke, the project coordinator. It focuses on the collaborative efforts of ‘outside’ organisations supporting ‘in-school’ change. The report describes the development and organisation of the project from initial idea to three year implementation. Its emphasis is on understanding the challenges for DECs and NGDOs, as ‘outside’ organisations, in terms of their purpose, their approach to, and learning from educational projects with schools and LEAs. A pdf file of the original report is available here A revised version of Taking Stock with additional material drawn from the evaluations and project developments, including Developing Citizenship benchmarks for secondary schools in a global context, was published in May 2006. A pdf file of the revised report is available Pupils’ Voices is a synopsis of pupils’ views, reflections, and comments from their participation in the Developing Citizenship project, with verbatim responses to issues as varied as human rights, war, the environment, school councils and Citizenship lessons. This report can be viewed in pdf format here. Printed copies are available, without charge, from: UNICEF, PO Box 300, Wetherby, West Yorkshire, LS23 7XN. Education Order Line: 0870 121 4200. These have been published in two reports which are available from this website. The Pupil Evaluation Report provides an overview of surveys that aimed to find out about pupil understanding, opinions and reflections on a range of (global) issues with which education with a global dimension is concerned. The surveys were taken near the beginning and towards the end of the project’s work with schools. The main report is available as a pdf file here. A paper copy of the appendices (not included in the pdf file) is available on request from developingcitizenship@oxfam.org.uk . A second evaluation, written up as Project Evaluation Report, is based on interviews and surveys amongst project teachers, SMT members, and DEC and agency staff. It reflects on, for instance, schools and support organisations becoming ‘learning institutions’, the uneven change taking place across the 16 project schools, and the divergence in perspectives on and experiences of ‘global education’ between teachers and pupils. The main school evaluation report is available in pdf format here. This report too is supported by a range of appendices.
