About 'Developing Citizenship'

A global society with local connections - the challenge for secondary education:

"… education must enable us to respond positively to the opportunities and challenges of the rapidly changing world in which we live and work…"

The National Curriculum
, QCA, 1999

The Developing Citizenship project supports secondary schools in developing educational experiences relevant to young people growing up as citizens in a globalised society.

Initiated in 2002 by Oxfam, Save the Children and Unicef, Developing Citizenship supports teachers in meeting the challenge.

The task of participants in the project was to use a global dimension in developing practical ideas of use in:

the Citizenship education curriculum;

student participation in school and community;
whole-school policy and ethos development.

The pages of this website give ideas designed and tested by project participants.
